Ayurveda is a science which is in perfect sync with nature and makes use of the age-old forms of yoga and meditation, in addition to the herbal medicines for curing the various ailments affecting your body.

It provides insights into leading one's life in harmony with nature and natural laws and rhythms.

Ayurveda is primarily based on two main principles:
  1. The mind and body are deeply connected to each other.
  2. The mind is the most powerful weapon that has the power to heal the body.
Both, the mind and the body need to be in a balanced state for an individual to remain healthy. Ayurveda has certain guidelines that help in balancing the body and mind -

Ayurveda states that the foods we eat determine the health of our body and mind. Our diet must ideally consist of fresh ingredients and be beneficial to the body. 

To ensure a balanced diet, our food should comprise of the 6 tastes which include the major food types (i.e., sweet, salty, sour, pungent, bitter, and astringent).

  • Understanding your own mind and body and its specific requirements:

Ayurveda is an individualized approach to inculcate a healthy lifestyle.

It encourages you to understand your own mind and body and make the most favourable choices about diet, exercise and supplements required for a balanced life.

  • Rest:

One major factor that can help restore the balance of mind and body is adequate sleep. While we are asleep, our body repairs the everyday wear and tear of the tissues and rejuvenates itself. 

A lack of sleep disrupts the body’s innate balance, weakens the immune system, and speeds up the ageing process. A healthy person needs 6-8 hours of sleep each night.

  • Live in tune with nature-

Ayurveda states that a healthy and balanced individual is in harmony with nature. To live in tune with nature, a body needs adequate rest, nourishing diet and experiences that would result in the nourishment of the mind. 

When you slip out-of-tune, your desires become non-nurturing and you may crave junk food, neglect to sleep and exercise, and indulge in compulsive behaviours, leading to an imbalance of mind and body. 

Over a period of time, the imbalance could result in a disorder that manifests into a disease, thus bringing on more stress and neglect.

  • Improve your digestion:

According to Ayurveda, every disorder is related to our metabolism in some way. When our digestive energy, or agni (fire), is strong, we are able to create healthy tissues, eliminate waste products efficiently and produce a subtle essence called ojas
